Provision of Group Structure and Financial Data

The ONS has wide-ranging and ongoing requirements to provide detailed information on business activity within the UK.

The variables included in this procurement are of interest in the transformation of ONS' financial, business, and international surveys, including foreign direct investment, construction, financial accounts, and international business. The procurement of this data will enhance the quality of economic statistics by improving our knowledge of company structures and information about global investment, providing more robust company information held on our business registers. The provision of this information also reduces the burden on survey respondents and the associated survey costs.

Requirements for this data come from a wide range of business areas across ONS, such as: Foreign Direct Investment, Construction Output and Development, Statistical Business Register, Financial Sectors and International Development, Economic Microdata Transformation, and International Analysis.

This procurement's main objective is to secure the supply of up-to-date data on the linkages of businesses (legal entities) based on share ownership to be recorded on ONS's Statistical Business Register. This is to include, as a minimum, all UK businesses and their links to both domestic and foreign entities based on a threshold of 10% or greater voting share ownership. This will form a group of businesses linked by ownership. Information is required on the immediate parent, domestic ultimate parent and global ultimate parent, including their nationality, business type and ownership level.

The Statistical Business Register (SBR, the replacement of the Inter Departmental Business Register, IDBR) holds a list of UK businesses maintained by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
