The Scottish Centre for Macromolecular Imaging at the University of Glasgow has recently received BBSRC ALERT funding to upgrade the detector on their JEOL F2-Cryo electron microscope. The detector will replace an earlier ‘first generation’ direct detector on the microscope and provide their users with access to a 200kV-optimised detector with electron counting, superresolution and correlated double sampling technologies. The detector will significantly boost the capabilities of the overall system and the F2-Cryo with upgraded detector is expected to deliver rapid, high confidence specimen screening data on low molecular weight/challenging targets. The upgraded system is expected to deliver publication quality data on more straightforward, larger or symmetric targets.
