Description
Rutland County Council is commissioning the design, build, and installation of a new permanent gallery exploring Rutland's prehistoric heritage, with a particular focus on the Jurassic period. This gallery will be the first space visitors enter after the pay gate and must deliver an immersive, educational, and accessible visitor experience.
The gallery consists of two integrated environments:
- Jurassic Seas Immersive Box (10m x 10m)
- Palaeontology "Science Lab" Interactive Zone
These galleries are being tendered separately but must be developed collaboratively in order to achieve a strong design focus. This tender is for the Jurassic Seas Immersive Box.
The contractors will deliver a fully realised immersive experience that balances scientific integrity, cinematic immersion, accessibility, and robust long-term durability.
General Requirements - The contractor will:
- Provide full concept design, detailed design, technical design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of the immersive box.
- Work in ongoing liaison with Rutland County Council to ensure pre fit-out works align with final exhibition requirements.
- Ensure all materials are durable, safe, and appropriate for permanent museum use.
- Guarantee all lighting, AV, interactives, and physical structures meet UK museum standards.
- Gallery Elements - Jurassic Seas Immersive Box (minimum of 10m x 10m)
The contractor shall design and deliver a 10m x 10m fully immersive "Jurassic Seas" box and environment. This space will utilise high-quality projection, projection mapping and sensor based interactive technology to create a convincing underwater Jurassic marine experience. The environment will depict ichthyosaurs, plesiosaurs, ammonites, marine flora, sediment movement and light dappled water conditions. Content sequences should move between calm exploratory moments and more dramatic encounters, including large-scale ichthyosaur and other marine fossil sequences, to create emotional variation and sustained visitor engagement.
