Bass Rock is an internationally important seabird habitat and is home to a number of historically significant structures, including Bass Castle and the Bass Lighthouse complex. The island is accessed by RSPB personnel, Scottish Seabird Centre (SSC), Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB) operatives, researchers, volunteers and authorised visitors. The existing pedestrian access routes, handrails and associated infrastructure have deteriorated over time due to the island's exposed offshore location, severe weather conditions and general wear. The proposed works are intended to address identified safety concerns, improve the condition and reliability of the existing access infrastructure and provide basic welfare facilities for personnel accessing the island.£300,000
